Why Should GM Foods Be labeled?
Genetically Modified Foods aren’t the perfect diet for one’s self if we see it from the health aspect or environmental aspect. People eat genetically modified food even when they think they’re not eating it because basically everything in markets is modified. And since GMOs aren’t healthy for us, labeling them is the least the companies should do.
GMO food contains many things that are unnatural. Meaning if people don’t know what they’re eating and are later sick it’s even harder to find a cure. If companies label GMO foods then people will be able either to avoid it or make their own choice with but if they get sick it’ll be on them because they already knew what it contained.
GMO foods are known for causing allergies that will lead up to death. People know what will cause their allergies but if there is no label on the food they’re eating, they most likely don’t know what it contains, which makes them vulnerable for more diseases such as allergies, which in some cases might be deadly. If companies don’t want to be held responsible for people’s death or even cause diseases, they should inform the people what they put in their products.
The last but not the least reason GMO foods should be labeled is for safety purposes. For instance a modified corn produces its own pesticide and that is considered toxic to even eat. But since GMO companies are mostly based on profit, there is no guarantee that the proper test is conducted for it to be edible so just in case they are in the food the people have the right to know what they’re eating.
If GM producer companies are confident about the food they are producing and providing to people, labeling their products won’t harm them but rather reduce the fear of the consumers on GM foods. If GM foods contain toxic chemicals they shouldn’t be available to market at the first place but once it is out it the least the companies can do to keep the customers informed. As an individual each person has a right to know what they’re eating.
